It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather Lamar Smith.  Lamar passed away February 12, 2022 at home after a short battle with cancer.  He was born in Thomasville, Clarke County, Alabama in 1938 to Will and Sallie Smith.  After graduating from Thomasville High School, he served in the US Army where he was stationed at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas.  It was there that he met and fell in love with Lennie Sue Cooper.  They were married on February 1, 1963.  Lamar was a successful and well-respected builder in Mineral Wells and surrounding areas for many years.  When he wasn’t building or fixing things, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, and especially spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Lennie Sue; his children Marla Bosher, Philip Smith and wife Marlena.  He is also survived by his five grandchildren Chelsey, Jakeb, Samuel, Landry Bosher and Audrey Smith as well as his great granddaughter Brylee Bosher.  Lamar was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Mineral Wells at 10:00am Monday, February 14, 2022. Visitation was an hour prior to services. Interment followed at Perrin Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship will be set up in his name.   Donations may be made to PPC Stock Show Heritage Association in Memory of Lamar Smith, Attention Kayla Hons at Community National Bank and Trust.
