FFA Off to State Convention

Summer is in full swing but some students in the district aren’t taking it too easy this week. Mineral Wells High School sent their Future Farmers of America Officers to the 94th Texas State Convention in Ft Worth.

Loaded on the bus and rolling out to FFA State Convention

Twelve MWHS students and their sponsors, along with 12,000 other blue corduroy jacket wearing kids from across the state, will participate in sessions, competitions, banquets and hear from keynote speakers such as Mike Rowe and Houston Kraft.

The 12 FFA Officers attending the convention this year are:

Texas FFA remains the largest state association in the nation with over 150,000 members who exhibit a passion for agriculture that the world desperately needs, according to their website. FFA of Texas

Prairie Eddleman

Their site reports that more than $2 million in scholarships were awarded to FFA students last year and fortunately several thousands of that was awarded to local students pursuing a higher education according to Beth Stutts and her husband Beau, who run the local chapter. The Stutt’s pour into these kids and explained to Mineral Wells Area News a little about the event’s this week.

“At each session 8 of the students will serve as voting delegates.
We will also have 4 students who will walk the stage to receive their Texas FFA Lonestar Degree, which is the highest degree offered through Texas FFA,” said Beth Stutts.

The four receiving their Lone Star Degrees are
Allee Elder, Abbey Tincher, Caeden Barker and Prairie Eddleman. Also Alumni member and supporter, Cayler Banks, of Mineral Wells will walk the stage and receive his Honorary Lonestar Degree this evening as well.
