The Mineral Wells Lady Rams won their fifth straight game and eighth in their last 10, slipping past Sanger, 25-20, Tuesday afternoon inside Rams Gym.
Marking the team’s last game before district action begins Friday, the Lady Rams (15-9) held an opponent to 20 points or less for the seventh time this season.
The role of leading scorer in the Lady Rams’ win streak has revolved. On Tuesday, it was freshman guard Aniyah Richardson’s turn. She scored nearly half of the team’s points with 12, including seven made free throws on 11 attempts. Richardson made two of three shots from the floor, including one deep ball.
Emery Boswell and Cadence Colwell each scored four points, followed by Kahlea Samples’ three and two from Jaylee Newman.
Boswell and Caitlyn Colwell each grabbed six rebounds, accounting for 12 of the team’s 28 glass cleanings.
Outscoring Sanger (10-12) 8-2 in the second period, the Lady Rams carried a 13-9 lead into halftime. It would be enough to help secure the five-point win.
It was not a great shooting day for either team. Mineral Wells was just 6-of-23 from the floor, but finished a solid 12-of-20 from the free throw line.
District 6-4A action gets underway in a big way Friday as Mineral Wells welcomes the Stephenville Honey Bees (15-8), currently ranked 22nd in Class 4A by Maxpreps. Tipoff at Rams Gym is 5:45 p.m.
