From the Desk of MWPD Chief Tim Denison
****UPDATE****
As many of you have heard, unfortunately the 13-year-old male did not survive his injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. We wanted to update the public regarding the investigation up to this point. Only the 13 year old and 10 year old children were inside the residence at the time of the incident. The firearm was a 9mm semi-auto handgun. It was determined that no adults in the residence owned or possessed a firearm and there are no charges pending against anyone living in the residence.
The 9mm handgun had been reported stolen from a recent vehicle burglary in Mineral Wells. It has not been determined how this 13-year-old came into possession of the firearm. After several days of investigation, Detectives believe that this incident occurred due to an accidental discharge as the magazine to the firearm had been removed prior to being discharged. There were no indications that the child was upset or wanting to harm himself. Detectives are still investigating this case.
