Winning will cure what ails you, especially when what ails you is a modest losing steak and a nasty illness bug.
The Mineral Wells Lady Rams shook off both Tuesday behind 17 points from sophomore guard Jaylee Newman and 10 from sophomore post Emery Boswell to secure a 55-38 non-district win over the Trinity Christian Lady Eagles at MWHS gym.
Mineral Wells improved to 16-12 on the year, ending a three-game losing streak while battling through sickness that swept through the team’s locker room.
Newman knocked down both of her three-point shots while going 5-of-10 from inside the arc. She also recorded two steals.
Boswell put together one of her best games, knocking down four of her eight shots from the field while pulling down six rebounds. She added an assist, two seals and a deflection to her stats line.
Cadence Colwell scored nine points on three made three-balls to go with two rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Aniya Richardson chipped in six points, followed by five from Kahlea Samples and two points each from Hailey McWhorter, Addyson Moore, Dasia Clardy and Rindy Carter, who also pulled down six rebounds.
Carter, Richardson and Samples had three steals each, with Samples adding five deflections. Richardson led the team in assists with four.
Caitlyn Colwell sat out Tuesday’s game.
The Lady Rams will seek their first district win in four tries when they travel to face Graham (8-11, 1-2) on Friday. Tip off is set for 5:45 p.m
