A CLASH OF WARRIORS: Top-ranked CCS faces No. 2 Immanuel Christian in pair of weekend battles

Local high school hoops fans have two chances to see two of Texas’ best private school boys teams face off at Mineral Wells’ City Gym. Both games promise lots of fast action and points.

Immanuel Christian Warriors, the No. 2-ranked team in Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship, is making the long drive from El Paso to take on the No. 1-ranked CCS Warriors. The games will play big in the TCAF-District 5 race, currently led by IC based on their 4-0 district mark to CCS’ 2-0 record.

CCS is 21-3 overall while IC’s season record is 22-6.

The games take place Friday at 7 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

CCS is coming off Tuesday’s 92-22 win over Dallas Academy. The night before CCS dropped just its third game of the season in a loss to Victory Christian Academy, 59-41.

Senior swingman Jonathan Blackburn averages a double-double per game for CCS, scoring 16.2 points per game with 11 rebounds per outing. He leads the team in assists with 121 and blocks with 35 (not including Tuesday’s totals).

Eighth-grader Josiah Marquez is also a double-double player for CCS with 13.5 ppg to go with 10.2 rebounds per game. Senior Price Horton averages 11.1 points per game and entered Tuesday’s game against DA leading the team in steals with 100.

Immanuel Christian is led by junior Hector Perez, who is scoring at a 15.2 ppg clip. Junior Ben Story averages 14.4 points while junior Noah Ayala averages 9.3 ppg.

As a team IC averages 65.8 points per game compared to 62.5 points per outing for CCS.

The IC Warriors are riding a seven-game win streak after their non-district win Tuesday over Patterson Institute, 67-35.
