If you have missed seeing the motorcycle driven by a shirtless man draped in the American flag riding through downtown, don’t worry because even though he has been a little under the weather, a recent operation has him on a road to recovery, according to family
Mineral Wells resident Danny Ewing, aka “Captain America” was diagnosed with liver cancer several months ago. He was told he would need a new liver and since he had been unable to work, and only drawing short term disability, those funds were exhausted quickly. Unfortunately, so had his insurance coverage.
In recent great news, he was informed that he would be approved to join the liver transplant list, however his loss of insurance coverage compromised that surgery. He would be denied a transplant until he had coverage for the surgery and the lengthy aftercare.
Quickly his son, Daniel Ewing, set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for his dad’s medical needs. Funds raised were used for Danny’s immediate medical situation.
“My dad Danny objected to the idea of this fundraiser and the idea of “taking a hand out” but we felt like it should be managed in a timely manner,” Daniel wrote in the GoFundMe request to help his dad.
Fortunately enough money was raised and Danny only spent nine days on the transplant list before learning he would be receiving a new liver.
Dannys surgery went well and he is home recovering according to his family.
