Trailing 4-0 at Graham on Tuesday, the Mineral Wells Rams nearly came all the way back with a chance in the seventh to tie or take the lead, but ended up falling, 4-3, to the Steers.

Mineral Wells fell to 4-9-1 on the year and 1-2 in District 6-4A action.

Adrian Holifield’s one-out single in the seventh scored Braeden Wells.

Wells started on the bump for the Rams, going six innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing four runs on five hits. The Steers (8-8, 1-1) scored once in the first and three times in the second inning.

The Rams scored twice in the top of the fifth. Leadoff walks were issued to Clayton Ethridge and Ridge Newton. Wells laid down a successful sacrifice bunt to advance Ethridge and Newton with one out. Ben Bullock singled in Ethridge, and Holifield followed with another RBI single.

Holifield had two of the Rams’ three hits in the contest and two RBIs.

The Rams travel to Stephenville on Friday to face the 13-6-1 Yellowjackets. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
