Rams fall to host China Springs to conclude tourney

Tourney host team the China Springs Cougars put up three runs in the first and two more in the fourth off Mineral Wells starting pitcher Holden Hering en route to a 5-2 win Friday.

Hering hurled 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out six and walking three. A wild pitch allowed one of the runs in the third. Hering threw 92 pitches in the outing, with 53 strikes.

Newt Schroeder followed Hering on the mound, allowing just one hit in his 1.1 innings of work

Hayes Hering led Mineral Wells Varsity Rams with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI double in the sixth. The Hering brothers, Braxton May and Newt Shroeder each collected one hit.

Preston Mendez stole two bases, including a steal of home in the fifth for the Rams’ first run. Mineral Wells swiped four bases total.

Cougars pitcher Jackson Fetters went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) and four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Mineral Wells (7-6-1) next play at home Thursday against North Crowley.
