“He’s earned all his money that we’ve ever paid him these last two years,” Palo Pinto County Judge Shane Long  said about Dr. Ed Evans, who currently serves as the local County Health Authority.

Judge Long told the commissioner’s court that he had recently spoken to Dr. Evans about serving another term. “I didn’t reach out to any other doctors to see if anyone wanted to apply for the position.”

Emergency Management Coordinator Mistie Garland reiterated Long’s confidence in his recommendation of Evans. “Dr Evans has done a great job. He’s been great to work with and has been very hands on throughout this whole process,”she said.

The County Commissioners voted 5-0 to reappoint Dr Evans. The Local Health Authority is paid $10,000 a year according to county officials and serves a 2 year term.

As the community has dealt with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic over these last 18 months, Dr Evans has utilized social media to communicate important information, as well as encourage habits to keep the community safer. In his most recent post to Facebook, Dr. Evans gave his opinion about vaccine boosters.

“My opinion at this point is that age 65 and up and immune compromised are the only ones needing the third shot otherwise known as ‘boosters’. Eight Months past second dose,” Dr Evans posted on Facebook.

Palo Pinto General Hospital is offering the vaccine/and or “booster” injections at 202 SW 25th Ave on Monday 8am-12pm, Wednesday 3pm-7pm or Friday 10am-2pm. The vaccines are free to anyone 16 years old and older.
