Mineral Wells Area News

About Us

In April of 2020, the community of Mineral Wells lost its 120-year-old newspaper publication when it closed its doors and its website, leaving the community of 30K+ without a local printed newspaper. Mineral Wells Area News quickly developed within the Facebook platform to create a place for the community to read about local news, events and obituaries.

In 2021, MWAN became incorporated in the state of Texas to operate as a nonprofit news organization and is a member of the Institute for NonProfit News.

Our nonprofit mission is simple…DELIVER HIGH QUALITY INFORMATION THE COMMUNITY EXPECTS FROM A LOCAL NEWS SOURCE WHILE OPERATING ON DONATIONS FROM THE PEOPLE WE SERVE.

Publisher Amy Bearden and founding member Christy Dorr spent 18 months collaborating and through wisdom and guidance from the owners of the Breckenridge Texan, MWAN launched a free website for local news. As the mission grows, MWAN will train citizens to be the eyes and ears of the community.

Dorr is a long time resident of MW, with extensive community involvement through church, real estate sales and her nonprofit pregnancy center.

Bearden is a MW native and former CBS affiliate television reporter who has extensive knowledge in sports marketing campaigns as well as the health/wellness space. Her passion is storytelling and she has a journalism degree from Oklahoma State University.

Without local journalism, democracy is in jeopardy! Together through crowd-funding as well as recruiting and training citizen news gatherers, our community can maintain a digital newspaper platform.

It will take a village to keep the citizens informed but MWAN has a sustainable media model to inform and entertain the communities of Palo Pinto County.
