Second Star Theater continues to bring musical theater opportunities for kids in the community as they set the cast for another show to be held in Mineral Wells. The theater troupe will bring the stage to life with a production called “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” on December 3&4.

Elizabeth Baker, founder of Second Star Theater, also held a musical theater camp at the Crazy Water Plaza this past summer but has her sights on a permanent stage for her troupe in Mineral Wells. It appears the lead developer of the downtown renaissance also has a place in mind.

RMNix Co recently acquired the historic Grand Theater and says it would be an iconic location to house a permanent theater company. The building needs many repairs before it could be utilized and it would take more than a year to get it up to code.

Baker has a troupe of very talented directors, parents, and kids that are supportive of her mission and will follow her anywhere. She has begun fundraising to help jumpstart renovations of the historic venue which will cost at least $500,000 for the repairs, according to Cody Jordan, Director of Business Development for Nix.

Liz Baker is not afraid of the work it’s going to take to make it happen, and with her support system, it doesn’t seem far fetched that the funds needed to renovate can be raised. She is well-known in the nearby theater world and currently serves as the Director of Mary Martin Musicals at Weatherford ISD. Aside from the multiple productions that she has directed for WISD, she also co-directs the Weatherford College Summer Junior Musical series.

Baker’s troupe will host their first fundraiser at the Crazy on October 28 at 6pm, and in true Halloween spirit, treat ticketed guests to a murder-mystery dinner and theater experience.  Tickets are $150 and can be purchased in the link below.
