Merry Wells Festival Huge Success Despite Weather Delay
The 8th Annual Merry Wells Festival and Lighted Parade took place over the weekend and despite a delay in the parade due to rain, as well as a generous offering by Crazy Water Plaza owners Randy and Misti Nix, the event was better than ever.
The Merry Wells committee monitored the weekend forecast and decided to make the call to move the parade to Sunday evening(which proved to be the right call, as the rain never let up through the entire day) but left the question of what to do with the festival vendors and entertainment.
The Nix’s quickly offered the use of the pavilion and ballroom at the Crazy to hold the planned Saturday activities. Festival coordinator Jacy Roach said they were extremely happy with the event.
“We are so thankful to Misty and Randy for saving the day and letting us move to the Crazy Water Plaza with less than 24 hours notice,” said Roach. “Everyone was so excited to see it full of people and so filled with the Christmas spirit.”
Roach didn’t have an exact head count but said there were a “couple of thousand” people there during the events. She said the entertainment and performers helped create such an incredible holiday atmosphere.
“The best news I heard about Saturday was that many , if not all of the businesses had outstanding sales that day. We were worried the weather would keep shoppers home but it didn’t. The floats amaze me every year. There is so much talent in our community,”claimed Roach.
The parade was moved to Sunday night but it did not keep the community from showing up. People standing several deep lined the entire route to see over 40 participants light-up creations.
Jack Richardson Disposal won the top prize taking home the “Merry Wells Award” with their military themed float which depicted the sacrifices families make while serving in the armed forces.
