If you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county elections officer or your party’s county chair. The elections officer can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. Political party candidates file with their party’s county chair. Independent candidates file with the county judge. If a party nominates a candidate who dies, withdraws, or is determined ineligible, the deadline for candidates from that party to file is extended by five days.
