Weatherford ISD Forced to Close, Mineral Wells ISD Seeing Excessive Cases As Well

By Amy Bearden
Today Weatherford ISD announced it would temporarily be closing its doors as Covid cases continue to rise among students and staff in the district. The closure affects all campuses and students through January 21. They hope to reopen next week.
Mineral Wells ISD is seeing a significant rise in cases as well, according to Superintendent Dr. John Kuhn.
“Our caseload is increasing and we are beginning to see an impact on staffing. We had 60+ positives among students today and 20+ among staff,” said Kuhn.
Kuhn says they are monitoring numbers daily and hope to keep the kids in school as long as they can, but staffing could become an issue according to the Superintendent and they may have to look at temporary closures.
“Today only 40% of our substitute teaching jobs were filled, and that is not sustainable long-term,” said Kuhn.
