Incredible things happen in MWISD
This week, Travis Elementary was visited by a children’s author, John David Anderson. Anderson, who wrote “Ms. Bixby’s Last Day” and “Finding Orion”, spent two days engaging students in presentations about where stories come from, finding your creativity, writers’ workshops, book signings and last but not least, having lunch with the Travis Writing Contest winners.

Nicholas Luu, Clara Wraight, Hadley Trammell, Regina Escalon Mendoza, author John David Anderson, Cesilia Gonzalez, Molli Hopkins, Brandon Tate, Travis Librarian Tara Hargrove, Lucero Cosme, and MWISD Superintendent Dr. John Kuhn.
Smokin’ Barrel hosted the luncheon at their restaurant, making students all feel like VIP and making the day that much more special for our contest winners and author. The experience brought to these students is one that will never be forgotten. As Albert Einstein said, “The only source of knowledge is experience,” and here at Travis we are doing just that- giving our students experiences of a lifetime!
