Today election officials in Palo Pinto County began the process of recounting every vote in the recent HD 60 primary election run-off.

After “human error” in the May 24 Primary Runoff took the victory margin of incumbent House District 60 Representative Glenn Rogers to just 309 votes, opponent Mike Olcott requested a recount.

All three counties in HD60 race were required to recount and have already been verified for accuracy in Parker and Stephens County. Only Palo Pinto County remained uncounted.

Mineral Wells Area News has not spoken with the election officials in Palo Pinto County but obtained a copy of a letter that was submitted to officials by Mike Olcott. Sources tell MWAN that Olcott conceded before the re-count in Palo Pinto Pinto was completed.

The letter from Olcott, dated June 21 stated, “I, Mike Olcott, am officially withdrawing my petition for a recount of the ballots in Palo Pinto County for the race for State Representatives for TX House District 60. I acknowledge that the results of the canvas are official which is the reason for the withdrawal. I acknowledge that once withdrawn, I may not petition again for a recount of this election. I acknowledge that the money properly expended will be subtracted from the deposit I made to the Texas Republican Party.”

MWAN is awaiting a statement from Representative Glenn Rogers on his victory.
