Just after 3pm, a wildfire began to burn out of control southwest of Mineral Wells behind Woodland Park Cemetery.

According to Adam Turner with Texas Forest Services, an aerial attack was warranted and three fire boss planes were ordered to combat the fire before it got out of hand.

“We requested fire bosses to knock down the head of the fire before it reached a large coastal field and began spreading rapidly,” Turner said.

“The fire is currently 13 acres and 80% contained. Resources are working to mop up around the perimeter now.”

MW Fire Chief Ryan Dunn reiterated to Mineral Wells Area News that the fire was contained but did indeed threaten homes.

“No houses were damaged but many threatened. The fire is contained but clean up will be extensive. We will be here all night and tomorrow,” said Dunn.

Dunn shared video with MWAN of the fire boss planes dropping water on The Cemetery fire.
