On August 19-21, some of Mineral Wells’ most beloved and historic venues will play host to the 3rd Annual Crazy About Film Festival.

“This is by far our most ambitious outing yet.” says festival co-founder Carol Kaspar. “We are so proud of everything we’ve done in the past but it’s always been our dream to have a festival that showcases the work of Texan filmmakers and I think this year we’ve been able to take a massive step in that direction.”

Bob and Carol Kaspar are preparing to host the 2nd Annual Crazy About Film Festival in Mineral Wells

The festival begins Friday, August 19th with a screening of the John Wayne classic El Dorado at The Hole in the Wall Bier Garten.

“For the third year in a row we’re kicking things off at the Bier Garten. It’s such an amazing venue and being there in the shadow of all those historic buildings in Downtown Mineral Wells makes it a perfect place to show a western film.” Says Kaspar.

“It’s just so cool to have the backyard-type vibe where you can sit out with your friends and family and enjoy a few drinks and some amazing food while you watch an absolute masterpiece of a Western.”

On Saturday, August 20th, Bryton and Co. D.I.Y. Studio will host a screening of Encanto.

“We wanted to have a screening that brings back those old memories of being a kid and setting up a pallet in your living room to watch Saturday Morning Cartoons.” Says Kaspar. “A big theme of our festival is that we want to get feedback from our audience and show them the movies that they want to see. Earlier this year, we polled the 5th Grade class at Travis Elementary and asked them what their favorite movie was. They chose Encanto.”

Saturday evening, The Hatchet House will host the 3rd Annual Crazy About Short Film Competition. Bob Kaspar, Carol’s husband and fellow Co-Founder shared why this event is so near and dear to his heart.

“Every year we get hundreds or even thousands of short film submissions from around the globe. These filmmakers are so passionate about their projects and oftentimes explore genres, themes, or filmmaking techniques that you just don’t get from the stuff you normally see on T.V. or at the theater. We’re so fortunate that these incredible talents from literally all over the world want to be a part of what we’ve got going here in Mineral Wells. This year, we wanted to bring in more filmmakers from Texas so Carol and I hit the road to check out other Film Festivals across the State. We came up with a list of our favorites and invited them to submit their work to our Short Film Competition and we are so proud that we have the opportunity to showcase their work.”

The Festival concludes Sunday evening with a very special screening of Deep in the Heart at Lake Mineral Wells State Park.

“This is such an amazing partnership for us,” raves Bob. “Deep in the Heart is a film that showcases the incredible natural beauty of our State and what better place to show it than the State Park Amphitheater surrounded by oak trees and under the starry Texas sky? The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has graciously chosen to waive the entry fee to the park for anyone coming in to watch the movie on Sunday and we aren’t charging anything for the tickets. All we ask is that you make a cash donation to the Friends of Mineral Wells State Park at the event. I highly recommend that you book your tickets soon because they’re going fast and we are limited to 100!”
