Past Rams and Future Rams Have Special Night
The MW Youth Sports Association Football Teams ran through the Ram tunnel behind the Varsity team while their cheerleaders stood amongst the Wranglerette’s as the boys took the field against Gatesville.
There were other special guests as well. Charlie Bond and Charles Garland, co-captains of the 1954 MWHS Ram football team. The were honorary captains once again, 68 years later to participate in the coin toss.
Despite their 29-30 loss to Gatesville in the last seconds of the game, the Mineral Wells Rams showed a lot of heart coming back from a 13-30 score at halftime. The Defense stepped up the second half and the offense made some key plays to turn the game around. The Rams sit 3-3 on the season but none of it matters until this week as they start District play. Friday night the Rams will be at home to take on Wichita Falls High at 7pm.
Offense Against Gatesville
The Rams rushed for a total of 279 yards. Jose Garcia had two touchdowns. One of those was a 75 yard run. He ran 105 yards total on the night in 11 attempts. Kayden Montalvo had 11 carries as well and ran 77 yards. DJ Simpson also ran the ball 11 times and had 47 yards. PR Mendez ran 19 yards in 2 carries. Quarterback Mason Facteau carried the ball 7 times for 25 yards. He also completed 12 of 17 passes, two of which were touchdowns, and had one interception. Preztynn Harrison caught 7 passes for 75 yards and had a touchdown. Jose Garcia had two catches for 15 yards and Bryce Gordon scored a touchdown one an 8 yard pass.
Defense Against Gatesville
Leading the defense for Mineral Wells was PR Mendez who had 11 tackles. Blake Blue and Braden Ethridge each had 8 tackles against Gatesville. Fabian Martinez had 5 tackles and a Sack. Kayden Montalvo also had 5 tackles.
Players of the Week
The Offensive Player of the Week was QB Mason Facteau. The Defensive Player of the Week was Kayden Montalvo and the Special Teams Player of the Week was Michael Borjon. The Church of God Player of the Week was Mason Fwcteau.
