The community of Graford and Possum Kingdom Lake are coming together this weekend to host a benefit for a 20-year-old Graford High School Graduate to raise funds for medical expenses.

Michael Goen, son of Craig and Dena Goen was recently diagnosed with ALS and friends and family are hosting an event this weekend at Possum Kingdom Lake to raise money for his care.

The Goen’s of Graford are fighting the battle of their life. 20-year-old Michael, next to mom Dena, was recently diagnosed with ALS. Brother Mathew on the right and dad Craig on the left.

Let’s Get Goen for Michael will take place Saturday December 3rd from 4-8pm at the Possum Kingdom Lake Chamber of Commerce. Tommy Alverson will perform and there will be a Spaghetti Dinner By Donation Only and a silent auction. Organizers have set up a Venmo to make donations to the family. Please get out and support this young man as he battles this debilitating disease.

The Goen family are long time Palo Pinto County residents and dad Craig recently retired from the Sheriff’s department after a career in law enforcement. It’s time to show the Goen’s they won’t fight this alone.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neurodegenerative disease that results in the progressive loss of motor neurons that control voluntary muscles.

You might remember, or even participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge that started in 2014 and became a viral fundraiser for ALS, raising more than $115 Million for research of the neurological disease.
