Police, Sheriff, State Troopers and Texas Rangers are helping a family look for a little girl that hasn’t been seen since Wednesday evening in Wise County.

The county sheriff says a call came in around 7pm on November 30 from a mom saying her child was missing and said she had been looking for her daughter for an hour.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, December 1, the Wise County sheriff said 7 year old Athena Strand had still not been found.

Athena was last seen around the 200 block of Country Croad 3573 in Paradise, Texas. Multiple police departments, local Texas Rangers, fire departments and other are a part of the search

According to the warning system’s website, AMBER ALERTS “require law enforcement to confirm an abduction prior to issuing an alert. This is essential when determining the level of risk to the child.”

“For an AMBER Alert to be effective in recovering a missing child, the law enforcement agency must have enough information to believe that an immediate broadcast to the public will enhance the efforts of law enforcement to locate the child and apprehend the suspect. This element requires as much descriptive information as possible about the abducted child and the abduction, as well as descriptive information about the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. Issuing alerts in the absence of significant information that an abduction has occurred could lead to abuse of the system and ultimately weaken its effectiveness.”

According to a flyer circulating, “The police are looking at this case as a act of crime.”
