It’s hard to drive through downtown and not feel nostalgic these days as the idea of restoring the Baker Hotel and this community to its glory days is evident.

If seeing the Crazy Water lit up hasn’t stirred memories in you, maybe tonight’s community wide event at Houston Elementary will do so.

Anyone who lived in Mineral Wells in the 1980’s remembers the annual Pet Show held at Cullen Grimes Elementary School. Students would bring their pet’s dressed up in some kind of costume hoping to become the Grand Champion of the show.

Students from all around the county were bussed to the Pet Show to see the spectacle and it became one of the biggest annual school events.

Tonight, in true nostalgic fashion, the Houston Elementary PTO is bringing back the famed event. Kids will parade their leashed animals around(no costume required) looking to win a top prize as well as playing games and fun activities, all while raising money for the school.

Tickets for fun booths and food are available for purchase and cost $.25 each. This is a CASH ONLY event so be sure to hit the ATM first.

This is a community wide event, but only Houston kid’s are allowed to bring their pets. There will be lots of awards for the pets including fluffiest, smallest, biggest, slimiest, cutest, friendliest and a judge’s choice.

Grab your kids and from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, enjoy this fun family friendly event as nostalgia continues to spread through the revitalization of Mineral Wells.
