County Moves to Phase II Burn Ban; Storage Fire at 35% Containment

Sources in the county say welding is to blame for the Storage Fire that has burned 1000 acres near Possum Kingdom Lake forcing mandatory evacuations of several communities. Palo Pinto County Commissioner’s held an emergency meeting on Friday June 30th and voted to enact Phase II of the Outdoor Burning Ban.
Much of the Phase II restrictions will place stricter guidelines on welding, and does not ban outdoor cooking or fireworks. A ban on fireworks would take action by Governor Abbott.

As of 4pm Friday, Texas A&M Forest Services reported the blaze was 35% contained. Aerial assaults continued to battle the blaze and Judge Shane Long commended TAMFS and local crews for their hard work in sweltering heat.
