Local Historical Commission Receives Distinguished Award

Historical markers throughout the area mark important locations in Palo Pinto County

The County Commissioner’s presented the Palo Pinto County Historical Commission with a Distinguished Service Award for 2022 at the July 10 regular meeting.

Judge Shane Long said the PPCHC was awarded the State level recognition again in 2022 and noted the group had done so for many years. One of the members present said it was their ninth year to be honored. Only 74 of the 254 Texas counties achieved the recognition .

PPCHC Chairman Wayne Cruz, past Chairman Mike Lewis, Secretary Lottie Eubanks, members Pam McQueary and Rob Smith were present for the photo and presentation by Judge Long.

Distinguished Service Awards are administered annually by the Texas Historical Commission to County Historical Commissions that document well-rounded programs of work that preserve and promote Texas history. This annual award affirms appointees preservation related programs that enrich Texas communities.

This year the group was able to get back to its annual Tour of Palo Pinto which was a driving tour of several historical sites in the county. The event was well received and successful.
