The fourth annual Crazy About Film Festival rolls out the red carpet from Friday August 18th through the 20th here in Mineral Wells. Venues across town will be transformed into pop up movie theaters for 3 days of film screenings, masterclasses and special events.

“This is our biggest and most ambitious program to date and it includes something for everyone. From John Wayne to the Super Mario Bros, Hungarian thrillers to country music singing aliens – we’ve got you covered,” explains CAFF’s co-founder, Carol Kaspar.

“As a filmmaker myself, I’ve been lucky enough to attend film festivals around the world. As glamorous as it sounds, you’d basically spend all your time cooped up in a cinema watching movies and never get to experience your surroundings or meet any of the locals. So when we set up CAFF we wanted it to be different. We wanted to create a festival where our town and community play just as much of a “starring role” as the films themselves.”

The program kicks off on Friday night with a fully immersive screening of the John Wayne epic western Red River at Western Heritage Park. Step back into the old west with live music, horseshoeing, chuck wagon building, and cowboy poetry before the screening. Audience members are strongly encouraged to wear their best western duds! A portion of the proceeds will benefit Texas Frontier Trails, the organization that maintains the park.

Saturday morning, the Boyce Ditto Library hosts a free screening of The Mario Brothers Movie. This film was voted as the “Kids’ choice” by the Fifth Grade students of Travis Elementary School. Seating is limited so make sure to book your tickets now. Saturday afternoon, the CAFF International Short Film Competition will showcase ten shorts from around the world. As a fully interactive screening, the audience will vote for their favorite and the winning filmmaker will receive a $500 prize. On Saturday evening, the Crazy Water Plaza hosts the US premiere of The Santo Project. This powerful experimental piece captures the incredible true story of an Army pilot from Baytown, Texas who heroically gave his life to save an entire French village.

Sunday there will be a Filmmaking masterclass at the Mineral Wells Women’s Club. This class is targeted to budding filmmakers of all ages and stages and covers all the essentials to bring your dream project to the screen. The Crazy About Film Festival wraps on Sunday evening at the Bankhead Wine Bar with a Soundtrack Session from the incomparable Zak Webb who’ll be belting out some tunes from Hollywood’s greatest classics.

The Crazy About Film festival is a one-of-a-kind event that showcases beloved classics, underground gems, and everything in between. Tickets for each screening are limited so be sure to book right away.
