One year ago the Community Christian School Warriors played their way to the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship basketball state finals, only to fall to Harvest Christian Academy.

Now they are back, and they are set to finish the job.

The TCAF Division II top-seeded Warriors (26-6) will face the Trinity Christian Academy (Paris) Warriors (24-7) for the state title at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19. The game will be played at Lake Country Christian School in Fort Worth.

Tickets at the door (cash only) are $7 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

Both teams made the championship game by winning their semi-final matchups on Friday. Trinity Christian defeated Methodist Children’s Home, 54-46, led by senior post Judah Moore’s 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior point guard Isaiah Newman scored 11, and junior swingman Luke Rolen grabbed 14 boards for the TCA Warriors.

CCS meanwhile took down Grace Academy (Georgetown), 45-37, in the other semi-final game played in Covington. Senior post Jonathan Blackburn recorded yet another double-double, knocking down 17 points and clearing 11 rebounds to lead CCS over the Griffins (17-11). Blackburn averages a double-double per game (16.7 points and 10.6 rebounds).

Senior point guard Price Horton also hit double-figures in scoring with 11, to go with five rebounds, one assist and four steals. Junior post David Blackburn recorded seven points, followed by Josiah Marquez and Aiden Sipes with four each, and two points from senior Braden Maness.

The Warriors had as many steals as turnovers – 12 – for the game. As a team they shot 46% from the floor (19-of-41) and the free throw line (6-of-13).

Monday is a holiday (President’s Day) for many people, and the weather forecast is sunny and mild. Heading to Fort Worth to support the CCS Warriors and encourage them to bring a state title home to Mineral Wells would make for a great afternoon.
