The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce will host candidate forums prior to local elections

The Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce has historically hosted forums before city elections to give all candidates an opportunity to speak to the community.

The forum is designed to provide a platform for incumbents, as well as their challengers, to answer questions and have their voices heard prior to the election.

The Chamber’s City Council forum will take place on Monday April 15th at MWHS from 6-8 pm. The event will be for candidates running in the City’s May 4th election.

All candidates running have been sent invitations. The Chamber has confirmed that all incumbents, which include Mayor Regan Johnson, Ward 1 Councilman Jerrell Tomlin and Ward 3 Councilwoman Beth Watson RSVP’d for the event.

No confirmation from Mayoral candidate Ron Davis, Ward 1 candidate Bryan Sleeman or Ward 3 Candidate DB Thomas if they will participate in the public forum.

The forum is open to the public. Questions will be selected from a pool provided by the community and vetted prior to the forum.

Meet and greet sessions for the candidates will be offered before and after the event, however neither questions from the audience nor public comments will be a part of the forum.

All candidates have been notified by mail of the time, date, and location of the forum.

In addition and prior to the City Council forum, the Chamber will also host a forum for local school board candidates who will be elected on May 4th. The forum will take place on Thursday April 11th at MWISD District Services Center building from 6-8pm. Candidates for school board include Claudia Azua, Scott Aaron and Kit Sparks who are all vying for Place 1. Brandon Hons is rerunning unopposed for Place 2 on the board.

The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce reminds its membership and all citizens that an informed electorate is key to our society on a national, state, and local level.
