The Mineral Wells Lady Rams’ slim post-season hopes were dashed this past week after falling to Brownwood and Glen Rose in District 6-4A softball action.

Now saddled with seven consecutive losses, Mineral Wells (8-15, 1-6) will finish last in the five-team district standings. Two regular season games remain – a non-district tilt Tuesday hosting Lipan before ending the season with second-place Graham coming to town.

After falling behind 3-2 in the second inning on Tuesday, Brownwood 12 times over the next three innings to beat Mineral Wells, 14-4. Once again, errors plagued the Lady Rams as they were charged with 10 miscues in the five-inning affair.

Offensively Mineral Wells pounded out eight hits, with Hailey McWhorter going 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while also reaching base on a walk.

Karli Aaron knocked in two of Mineral Wells’ runs, both coming on a two-out single to right to cap a three-run second inning.

Things didn’t get easier for the Lady Rams as they traveled to Glen Rose on Friday to face the district-leading Lady Tigers. Glen Rose scored four times in the third inning and didn’t look back, claiming a 9-1 victory over Mineral Wells.

Right-hander Cadence Colwell started in the circle for the Lady Rams, allowing five hits and five runs (four earned) in three innings of work. Glen Rose pitcher Shannon Wright went the distance, allowing just three hits and one run, which was unearned. Tatum McMinn, Caitlyn Colwell and McWhorter recorded the Lady Rams’ three hits.

In the sixth inning, McWhorter reached base on an outfield error and scored the team’s lone run on another Lady Tigers error. Glen Rose had three errors in the game to just two for Mineral Wells – a vast defensive improvement for the team.

Tuesday’s home game against Lipan has a scheduled 6 p.m. start.
