ABILENE – The Mineral Wells Rams baseball season came to a close Monday in Abilene after falling, 7-0, to San Angelo Lake View.
The teams met Monday to complete game two of the best-of-three bi-district playoff series after the game was suspended Saturday because of inclement weather.
The Chiefs led 3-0 with two outs in the fifth inning when the game was halted. Lake View had the bases loaded with two outs. When play resumed Monday, Rams reliever Josh Petrie issued three walks to give the Chiefs a 6-0 lead before Rylan Wells came on to record the final out.
The first-round Class 4A playoff series was scheduled to start Friday in Clyde but that game was postponed until Saturday at Abilene Cooper High School. Lake View won the first game, 2-0. The second game followed.
The Chiefs, runners-up in District 5-4A, advance to play Krum in the area round.
Mineral Wells, which finished third in District 6-4A, sees its season end with a 7-17 record overall.
On Tuesday, Rams senior pitchers Ben Bullock and Braeden Wells will sign college letters of intent to continue their careers at the collegiate level. Both are headed to play for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview.
