The City of Mineral Wells has been on a search for a new City Manager with the impending retirement of Dean Sullivan at the end of 2024. Now they will begin an additional search for another key position as Finance Director Jason Breisch announced he will be resigning from the job at the end of September.

Breisch, a licensed lawyer and Mineral Wells native, has held the position since August of 2021. He quickly championed a waste management program designed to streamline trash collection service in Mineral Wells, requiring all citizens to utilize a standard issued bins.

Mayor Regan Johnson says Breisch’s departure is a big loss.

“I am thankful for the time Mr. Breisch worked with the City of MW. He was, as an attorney, somewhat of an unconventional choice for that leadership role. However, he was the right choice. Jason has been an asset to the staff, the citizens, and the council. I will miss his perseverance, spirit, and tenacity. He is leaving big shoes to fill, but I wish him the best in this next chapter of his life,” stated Johnson.

The finance director told MWAN his decision to leave was difficult, but he had an opportunity that has been a lifetime in the making for his family so he took it.

“I have really enjoyed being back in my hometown working to assist all of these great leaders who work tirelessly to move this amazing community forward to a bright, prosperous future,” said Breisch.

Breisch will stay in the position as the City looks for his replacement. His last day is September 25th, allowing the City to get through the 2024 fiscal year.

Speaking of which, City Council will meet on Tuesday August 20th to hold a Public Hearing regarding the 2024-25 Proposed City Budget.

The proposed budget for year 2025 is $51.7 million, up from $48.3 this year. The new budget includes funds to staff four more police officers. The proposed budget also includes a $275,000 increase to the Fire & EMS budget to fund ambulance service within the city. That number, however, according to City officials, will not be enough.

The proposed budget will raise property tax rates to 56.45 cents which means the tax payers will pay a $565 tax bill on a $100,000 home.

Take a peek at the City Council Meeting Agenda which is set to begin at 6pm at City Hall on August 20th.
