Gordon, Strawn and CCS roll to wins

Top-ranked Steers record second straight shutout

Gordon had no problem racing past Fort Worth Covenant Classical on Friday, claiming a two-quarter 56-0 win. It was the Longhorns’ second consecutive shutout.
The nation’s top-ranked six-man football team improved to 5-0 on the season, having now won 20 straight and 32 of their last 33 games. On the year Gordon is outscoring opponents 287-26.
The Cavaliers (2-2) were no match for the defending state champions’ speed and athleticism. Gordon’s defense held FWCC to minus 53 yards rushing and 112 passing yards on 37 plays for 56 total net yards.
Meanwhile, the ‘Horns racked up 242 yards on 18 plays from scrimmage, including 161 rushing yards. Stryker Reed led the Gordon ground attack, rushing for 116 yards on just five runs, scoring three rushing touchdowns.
His unrelated counterpart, Ry Reed, had 45 yards on three touches with one rushing TD, while scoring on two kick returns, a 70-yarder on the game’s opening kickoff and a 60-yard kickoff return after a safety late in the first quarter.
Stryker Reed also had a touchdown reception, his lone catch of the game that went for 49 yards.
Gordon scored four touchdowns and a safety in the first quarter for a 34-0 advantage. After Ry Reed’s opening kick return for a score, Stryker Reed followed with a 48-yard score. Quarterback Noah Kostiha connected with Reed for his lone scoring pass on the night. Gordon’s defense then registered a safety, followed by Ry Reed’s 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The second quarter saw Stryker Reed score on runs of 5 and 19 yards, sandwiched around a 33-yard scoring run by Ry Reed.

Gordon will play its last non-district game on Friday, traveling to Follett, where the Panthers are 3-2 and riding a three-game win streak. The ‘Horns open District 13-1A-1 play Oct. 11 hosting Lingleville.
Strawn wins big over previously unbeaten Zephyr

The Strawn Greyhounds showed why they are a favorite to win their district race and be a force in the Texas six-man playoffs after traveling to Zephyr on Friday and handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 84-42.
Strawn raised its season record to 3-2.
The ‘Hounds will welcome Ranger to Greyhounds Stadium this Friday for a scheduled 7:30 p.m. kickoff. It will be the final non-district match before their District 9-1A-2 slate begins Oct. 11.
Fourth quarter erases Santo rally

MILLSAP – The Santo Wildcats rallied from 16-0 down after the first quarter against Millsap to take a 30-29 lead after three quarters were in the books.
But Class 3A Millsap outscored the Class 2A Wildcats 22-7 in the fourth quarter to claim a 51-37 non-district win.
Santo charged back in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 23-13. The Wildcats then held Millsap scoreless in the third while posting a touchdown to take the lead.
The loss ended Santo’s three-game win streak to drop them to 3-2 on the season. Millsap improved to 2-3, snapping a modest two-game losing streak.
Santo concludes non-district play and will take next Friday off before hosting Era to open District 8-2A-II play on Oct. 11.
Millsap will also enjoy a bye week and open District 6-3A-II play on Oct. 11 hosting Holliday.
CCS claims season’s fourth win

The Community Christian School Warriors defeated Thesa JV, 60-15, on Friday.
Senior Jace Little had 216 all-purpose yards with three receiving touchdowns. He also scored on an interception return.
Junior Heydon Yelverton rushed for 119 yards on 10 carries, scoring two rushing touchdowns while hauling in a touchdown pass.
The game was called in the third quarter via the Texas six-man football 45-point mercy rule.
A number of Warriors defenders had big nights. Little and freshman Parker Dehls each had two interceptions. Sophomore River Bryan registered two sacks. Dehls, Little and Bryan each had seven tackles.
CCS (4-2) is scheduled to host Westlake JV on Thursday with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
