Program Set for Annual MW Veterans Day 2024
By Mary Creighton / Special to Mineral Wells Area News

On November 11th at 11am, Mineral Wells and surrounding areas will stop to recognize Veterans Day.
The 41st Annual Veterans Day of Recognition by Mineral Wells ISD and the local American Legion Post 75 will come together again at Ram Stadium for a wonderful event. The program allows young people and citizens a place to give our veterans special honor for giving service to our country.
Some veterans have served in duties within the United States and others have gone over seas to help protect us and they deserve our recognition.
Tradition is great in this program. They will have groups of students from each of the MWISD campuses performing. Some long standing traditions have endured and the Parachute Team program continues to entertain along with the band and drill team performances. There will also be choirs from three different campuses performing.

Weather permitting, there will be a flyover by military aircraft as well as the posting of colors by a nearby Civil Air Patrol unit.
The main program for this year’s event again has local ties. Organizers are honored to welcome guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Archie Wilmer, III Ph. D. (US Army, ret) to the podium. Archie was raised in Mineral Wells and attended school here and graduated high school before going to West Point.
Archie was a talented young man in school. He was active in many things but also physically and mentally strong. Perhaps that is one reason he decided to devote his life career to the field of math.
Archie served his country as a soldier then was selected to attend academic programs where he obtained his doctorate degree in Math and became a professor at West Point until he retired.
The process to get there was not easy and Archie will share his story at the Veterans Day of Recognition program on November 11th.
Make plans to arrive around 10:30 a.m. on November 11th at Ram Stadium on the west side. You will want to be able to enjoy the pre-ceremony events and be ready for the 11am official program.
The public is invited to attend and the show is free!
