Fly into Fall & Help LGC Build a Fence!!

Story & Images by Amy Meyer/ Mineral Wells Area News
The community garden is in full bloom this fall growing season and continues to thrive as Let’s Grow Crazy’s mission of bringing a sustainable, local food source to the area continues to blossom.

The nonprofit organization is hosting their annual “Fly into Fall” fundraiser and hopes to raise enough funds to build a perimeter fence around the downtown community garden.
To build the fence, they are selling raffle tickets for two free Southwest Airline tickets to fly anywhere in continental United States, Puerto Rico or Hawaii. A $50 donation will get you a chance to win two round trip tickets and help build the fence they badly need. There are only 300 tickets available for purchase so the odds are in your favor.
Tai Saylor is the executive director of LGC and says this fall fundraiser is really important for the growth of the community garden organization.
“We are using the funding to build a sleek fence around the garden to beautify the space, keep critters out, protect gardener’s plants, and make the garden and farmers market more accessible with more gates all around the garden,” she explained.
To help the fund the fence, Visit their website , click the green “FENCE FUNDRAISER” banner at the top of their home page and buy a raffle ticket, OR CLICK HERE for the direct link.
The airline tickets are valued at over $3000 and the winner will be drawn during their annual Night Market this Saturday, November 16th, which is their last event of the season. The market and community garden are located at 500 SE 2nd Avenue.

Don’t miss the final LGC Farmer’s Market of the year this Saturday from 3-7 pm & stay for the party afterwards!
Join them for one last chance to shop fresh, local produce, handmade goods, and more.
LGC wants people to come together to celebrate the community, support local growers and artisans, and stock up on seasonal favorites before the season ends, all the while raising funds to construct a fence at the garden.
Other Gardening News…

In October, Let’s Grow Crazy received a grant from retail grocery giant HEB and on Texas Arbor Day, a group of more than 20 volunteers planted rows of new trees in the garden that will hopefully provide fruit and berries, as well as some eventual shade in the garden.

Before the volunteers planted more than a dozen new trees donated by HEB, LGC recognized the Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Class 26 for their donation of a beautiful metal building that now serves as the group’s headquarters and gathering place.

Also on display during their new building dedication and Arbor Day celebration were twelve newly constructed grow boxes that were built by Mineral Wells High School wood-shop students. (That brings the total of grow boxes in the garden to 36) The boxes will be utilized by local nonprofits to offer each organization an opportunity for the people they serve to participate in growing a garden.
Let’s Grow Crazy is a local 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate a thriving, interconnected community that prioritizes health, sustainability, and food equity.
