CCS Warriors claim district crown

Community Christian School and St. Paul’s Prep needed one more game to decide the Texas Christian Athletic Federation District 1 regular-season champion. The Warriors came out on top, besting St. Paul, 43-39, on the Lions’ home floor.
It was a tale of two seasons for CCS. The defending state TCAF champions got off to 2-5 start on the season before entering their district slate. From there, the Warriors took off, going 9-2 the rest of the way, including Friday night’s win.
CCS and St. Paul’s split their two regular-season meetings. Each of their three games were decided by six points or less.
The Lions finished with an 8-3 district mark and stand 14-9 on the season.
Riding a five-game win streak, the Warriors will enter the playoffs Tuesday taking on Grace Academy at 7:45 p.m. in a home game at City Gym. The two teams did not face each other during the season.

The Griffins from Georgetown are 18-5, finishing second in District with an 8-2 record. On average Grace Academy outscores their opponents by an average of 20 points per game, 58-38.
Because of their slow early-season start, CCS has allowed more points on the year than they have scored. That means Tuesday’s playoff game will challenge the Warriors to play their best against a talented team coming out of a competitive TCAF district. Playing on their home floor with confidence coming from their current win streak should boost CCS in this first-round playoff contest.
