The Gordon and Strawn ladies basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end, losing in the area round of the Texas UIL playoffs.
The Lady Longhorns lost a pre-Valentine’s Day heartbreaker, 43-42, to Aspermont at Jim Ned High School.
Gordon ends its season with a 23-12 overall record after winning the District 13-1A title. Gordon advanced to the area round after its 37-32 over Highland.
The Aspermont Hornets improved to 21-7 and advance to the regional semifinals to take on Irion County (29-6), ranked in the top 20 in Class 1A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Irion County advanced after thrashing Balmorhea, 71-22.
The Lady Greyhounds dropped a 50-34 decision to Jayton in their area-round game played at Abilene Cooper.

Strawn finishes its hoops campaign with a 17-12 record after finishing runners-up in District 13-1A.
The Jaybirds improved to 22-12 on the season and will next face Blackwell in the regional semifinals. Blackwell (23-9) outdistanced Marathon, 57-22, in the area round.
The losses leave no other Palo Pinto County girls UIL teams in the playoffs. Graford lost its opening bi-district game, 31-26, to Crawford last week.
