Godley hurler limits Rams to one hit, run

Godley Wildcats pitcher Tabor Anderson one-hit the Mineral Wells Rams and helped his own cause with two runs batted in as the Wildcats claimed a 12-1 win Tuesday at Pratt Field.
Anderson went the distance for Godley, recording six strikeouts while allowing just two walks over seven innings. The Wildcats (14-3) won their fifth straight game.

Six of Godley’s runs were earned as Mineral Wells (8-3) committed five errors. But with the Rams hitters unable to figure out Anderson it didn’t much matter.
Godley plated a run in the top of the first inning. The Rams responded with a first-inning run of their own on a wild play. William Hollifield led off with a single to center. He advanced to second on a wild on a passed ball. Holden Hering walked to put two Rams on base. Kord Henry hit into a fielder’s choice to third. An error resulted in Hollifield being tagged out trying to score from second, but Hering made it across the plate coming all the way around from first.
The Wildcats got all the runs they would need in the top of the second, scoring three times to take a 4-1 advantage. They scored single runs in the next two innings, two in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Godley collected 11 hits in the game as Mineral Wells sent five pitchers to the hill. Hollifield got the start, going two innings. He allowed five hits, three walks and four runs, all earned while fanning one Wildcats batter.
Hayes Hering and Henry each pitched an inning. Neither allowed a hit, but both had an unearned run scored against them. Curry Crouch and Newt Schroeder finished the last three innings for the Rams, allowing a combined six hits, six runs and four walks. None of the four runs scored against Schroeder were earned.
Mineral Wells prepares to play in the China Spring Tournament Thursday and Friday.
