Mineral Wells improve to 2-1 in district

GLEN ROSE – Tatum McMinn collected five RBIs, Angy Bista knocked in four runs and Kynlee Harkins had three hits to help lead the Mineral Wells Lady Rams to a 12-4 win Tuesday at Glen Rose.

Harkins scored three times with two runshttps://www.brookshires.com/sm/pickup/rsid/118/circular?utm_source=mineralwellsareanews&utm_medium=display&utm_campaign=grandopenings&utm_term=brand&utm_content=awareness_bfs_grandopenings batted in. Carsyn Presley, Angy Bista and Emery Boswell had two hits each to help lead a 13-hit attack. The Lady Rams worked eight walks in the contest.

Hailey McWhorter went the distance in the circle for Mineral Wells. In her seven innings McWhorter allowed seven hits while striking out three Lady Tigers and walking six. Two of the four runs scored were unearned.

Mineral Wells won their second District 6-4A game to improve to 2-1 and 15-5 overall.

The first inning would be the only one in which the Lady Rams failed to score as Glen Rose staked itself to an early 1-0 lead. Mineral Wells tied the game in the top of the second on a Bista double that scored Scottie Denison. Denison reached on a one-out double.

McMinn’s single in the third scored Presley and Harkins for a 3-1 lead. Glen Rose knotted the game at three runs apiece in the bottom half of the frame.

With two outs in the fourth, the Lady Rams’ offense got busy again. A Presley single followed by an Aubree Yowell double put two in scoring position. Harkins cleaned them up with a base knock into center for a 5-3 Mineral Wells lead.

The Lady Rams began distancing themselves in the fifth scoring three more times. Another Bista double scored Denison and Boswell. Karli Aaron’s single allowed pinch runner Addy Moore to touch home for an 8-3 Lady Rams advantage.

The sixth inning saw Harkins lead off with a hit followed by a McWhorter walk. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball. McMinn hit into a ground out but both runners raced home for a 10-3 lead.

Two more runs in the top of the seventh came on a McMinn hit-turned-error that scored Yowell, who reached after being hit. With bases loaded, Bista was hit by a pitch that sent Harkins trotting in for the final Lady Rams score.

There were nine errors in the game – five by Mineral Wells and four by Glen Rose.

Mineral Wells Varsity Lady Rams welcome Stephenville to Kessler Field on Friday for a 5 p.m. scheduled start.
