Hering, Hollifield strong on the hill in home win
Mineral Wells starting pitcher Hayes Hering threw four strong innings and reliever William Hollifield turned in an even stronger three innings of work to lead the Rams to a 3-1 win Friday over the visiting Glen Rose Tigers.
Hering collected the win as Mineral Wells took both games this week over the Tigers. The Rams won 3-0 on Tuesday at Glen Rose and now stand atop the early District 6-4A standings with a 2-0 record, 10-6-1 overall.

The Rams pitching duo collectively recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed just four hits. Hering fanned five Tigers hitters while giving up three hits, issuing only one walk and and allowing one earned run. Hollifield cleaned it up for the save, booking seven strikeouts, one hit and no runs.

The Rams scored twice in the home half of the third inning. Newt Shroeder led off with a single. He reached second on a Caleb Crouch sacrifice bunt. Hollifield singled to put Rams on the corners with one out. He stole second ahead of a triple by Holden Hering that scored both runners.

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Mineral Wells added a run. It began with Shroeder again leading off with a hit and another Crouch sacrifice to move Schroeder into scoring position. A passed ball sent Shroeder to third before scoring on a Hollifield line drive hit into center field.

It would be all the offense the Rams would need, playing errorless ball in the field to back up the dominant pitching performances.
The Rams have a non-district game set for Saturday afternoon in Springtown. They then host Stephenville at 7 p.m. Tuesday before making the trip to face the Yellowjackets on Friday.
