LUBBOCK – Mineral Wells will be represented at next week’s state track meet by Javawn McKinney.
McKinney will be looking to bring home a state championship in the boys discus competition. He finished first at this past weekend’s Class 4A Region 1 track meet in Lubbock with a throw of 158-3. He easily out-distanced runner-up and state qualifier Kelton Burgoon, of Canyon, who recorded a throw of 156-10.

The Rams’ Frederico Villa just missed qualifying for the boys 400-meter dash finals, recording a time of 52.13 in the preliminary event.
The Texas UIL State Track Meet is May 1-3 at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
