Texas Country Artist Andie Kay Joyner Releases Emotional Final Recording with Late Legend Tommy Alverson
MINERAL WELLS, Texas —
In a heartfelt tribute to a Texas music legend, singer-songwriter Andie Kay Joyner has released a new single that marks the final studio collaboration with her longtime friend and mentor, the late Tommy Alverson.

The song, “Couldn’t Do Nothing Right,” dropped Wednesday across major streaming platforms and arrives on what would have been Alverson’s birthday. Written by Texas music greats Gary P. Nunn and Karen Brooks, the track is described by Joyner as a “tearjerker full of heartbreak and hopelessness,” made all the more meaningful by Alverson’s signature musical touch.
“This recording is so dear to me, as well as bittersweet, because it is the last one that I’ll ever get to make with my longtime friend, Tommy Alverson,” Joyner shared in her release announcement.

Joyner recalled hearing the song as a child, singing along with her mother to Rosanne Cash’s version in a long white Ford LTD.
“It is one of the first songs that I remember hearing,” she said. “I have loved every version of it that I’ve ever heard, including Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P., and others. I hope you enjoy our take of one of my favorite songs.”
She and Alverson recorded the track in September, just weeks before his unexpected passing. With the blessing of Alverson’s family, Joyner chose to release it on his birthday in honor of their friendship and musical journey together.
“Tommy would ask me to sing it regularly at his shows,” Joyner said. “As he always does, he added more musical magic to the tune.”
Backing Joyner on the recording are Jerry Abrams and Danny Cochran, longtime friends and fellow musicians. She credited them, along with others involved in the project, for helping bring the vision to life.
To mark the occasion, Joyner is hosting a special edition of Wild Ass Wednesday at Rickhouse Brewing in Mineral Wells — a weekly celebration that Alverson himself helped inspire. The June 11 event features a stacked lineup including Matt Hillyer, Mike Graham, Mark David Manders, Terry Rasor, Nate Kipp, Adam Hull, Jim Fincher, and others.
“This recording is for all of you who love Tommy, as well as those who don’t know they love him yet,” Joyner said.
The song is now available on Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube, and other major platforms.
