MINERAL WELLS BASEBALL COACH JACOB CLAY NAMED REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR
Story By Mineral Wells Area News
Mineral Wells High School baseball coach Jacob Clay has been named a 2025 Regional Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and ATEC Sports, capping off a historic season for the Rams.

Clay led the Rams on an unprecedented playoff run, guiding the team to the regional semifinals — matching the deepest postseason advance in program history, a milestone last achieved in 1958.
“Coach Clay receiving the ABCA Region 6 Coach of the Year Award is a really big deal,” said Athletic Director Cody Worrell. “Region 6 includes coaches across Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Nobody works harder and is more deserving than Coach Clay.”

The ABCA/ATEC Regional Coach of the Year award honors high school coaches who demonstrate exceptional leadership and achievement. Winners are selected by members of the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year Committees. Region 6 covers a highly competitive five-state area, making the honor especially significant.
“The historic run that he led our baseball program to this past season was truly remarkable,” Worrell added. “Mineral Wells ISD is lucky and fortunate to have Coach Clay apart of our family.”

The Rams’ playoff performance brought renewed energy to the program and the community, re-establishing Mineral Wells among the state’s elite baseball schools.
Clay is now in contention for an even higher honor — the 2025 ABCA/ATEC National Coach of the Year, to be announced soon.

Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for amateur baseball coaches, representing over 15,000 members across all 50 states and 41 countries.
This award adds to the growing momentum within Mineral Wells High School athletics under Worrell’s leadership, with the Rams’ success a testament to the school’s commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
