MINERAL WELLS, Texas — Authorities are investigating a serious incident that occurred Monday night at the Mineral Wells Regional Airport, where an 18-year-old man was critically injured after reportedly being thrown from a moving vehicle.

According to officials, Mineral Wells Police and Fire/EMS responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:05 p.m. on July 14. The call reported a male individual who had been ejected from a vehicle traveling at unsafe speeds within a restricted area of the airport grounds.

Witnesses told responders the man had been “car surfing” — riding on the exterior of the vehicle — when the incident occurred.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and began administering medical care. Due to the severity of the injuries, an air ambulance was called to the scene. The patient was transported to a Fort Worth hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The Mineral Wells Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is leading the investigation. As of Tuesday afternoon, no additional information has been released.

The area of the airport where the incident occurred is not open to the public.
