Ghosts, goblins, pirates, princesses and many other costumed characters converged on Downtown Mineral Wells Friday night, Oct. 31, for the fifth annual Spooky Wells community celebration.

Organized by the Mineral Wells Main Street Program, the cost free event once again transformed downtown into a safe, festive space for families to enjoy Halloween fun. The evening kicked off at the Palo Pinto County Annex, where county agencies hosted carnival-style games including a prize wheel, ring toss and rubber duck pond.

From there, families made their way along North Oak Avenue, where downtown businesses opened their doors and handed out candy and goodies to hundreds of trick-or-treaters. The Mineral Wells Police and Fire Departments were on hand as well, with a fire truck display and a mock “jail” where mischievous trick-or-treaters could pose for photos.

The night wrapped up at Zappe Park, where local organizations and businesses hosted a community-wide Trunk-or-Treat, adding even more candy stops and smiling faces to the Halloween fun.

In Mineral Wells Area News’ five years of covering Spooky Wells, this year’s crowd was by far the largest — a sure sign that the downtown tradition has become one of the city’s most anticipated annual events.
