Gordon completes historic three-peat with dominant state title win
Editor’s Note
As the Public Relations Manager of the County’s ESD#1, I was on scene in Gordon in the immediate aftermath of the May tornado that stunned this community. As the sun rose the following morning, Gordon athletes and their coaches were already at work — clearing debris and beginning the long process of rebuilding.
For much of the season, the Longhorns did not have a home field, opening the year without usable athletic facilities and returning to their rebuilt field only late in the fall.
What unfolded over the months that followed was a community defined by resolve.
Gordon challenged itself throughout the season, including scheduling games against 11-man programs to test its limits and prepare for the future. The result was a team shaped not just by victories, but by adversity, discipline and unity.
This championship game may feel bigger than any one moment or season, but it is not bigger than the heart of this community or the character of these athletes. Their grit and commitment to one another will leave a legacy far beyond the scoreboard — one that will inspire generations to come.
Keep up the effort Longhorns! Time to hit the hardwood.
