Trail Rider Assaulted and Robbed

Mineral Wells Police Department reported a robbery along the Rails to Trails on Monday morning, June 7th where a bike rider was assaulted after stopping on the trail near 400 South Oak Avenue.
Chief Dean Sullivan says officers responded to a 9-1-1 call and located the victim. “According to the victim, while riding his bicycle, on his way to work, he stopped along the trails to smoke a cigarette just as he crossed south Oak Avenue. The victim says he was smoking when he heard an unknown subject walk up behind him. He was then struck from behind with an object, possibly a 2×4 piece of wood, and fell to the ground.”
Sullivan says the victim stated that he observed the suspect flee with his bicycle. His injuries were treated at the scene by MW Fire/EMS where the assault occurred. He also says they believe this is an isolated incident and there is no significant threat to the public.
“At this time, detectives are pursuing several promising leads about the suspect and arrest warrant is forthcoming in this case,” claimed Sullivan.
