Led by RB Evan Guzman and quarterback Mason Facteau, the Mineral Wells Rams dealt the Western Hills Cougars a 38-20 loss before a large homecoming crowd at Ram stadium.

Guzman rushed for 114 yards on 15 carries while Facteau completed 7 of 9 passes for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tristan Gray, who had a huge game, rushed 16 times for 64 yards, scoring 2 touchdowns on the ground and 2 through the air.

Facteau got the Rams on the board early as he hit Gray on a 36 yard pass at 8:19 of the first quarter. Ryan Carter’s kick gave the Rams a 7-0 lead. After Fabin Martinez recovered a fumble, Gray scored on a 5 yard run.

Gray moved the Rams ahead, 19-0 on a 3 yard run at 2:03 of the first quarter. Western Hills got on the board on a 3 yard run but Facteau found Gray on a 21 yard pass and a 25-6 Ram lead.

After a defensive battle in the second quarter, the Rams added another touchdown at :01 on a 21 yard pass from Facteau to Gray.

The Rams took a commanding 31-6 lead at the half, but Western Hills didn’t go away. The Cougars scored twice in the third quarter to cut the Rams lead to 31-20.

Gray put the game away with a 5 yard run at 7:12 of the fourth quarter. Carter’s kick gave the Rams a 38-20 lead.

Coach Seth Hobbs had plenty to say about Facteau and Guzman. “Mason was very efficient. He took care of the ball and took advantage of what the defense gave him,”stated Hobbs.

He also had high praise for Guzman. “He runs hard and he is hard to tackle,”added Hobbs.

On defense Hobbs gave high marks for DL Bryce fellows, LB Braden Ethridge and safety Evan Silva.

The Rams face Benbrook at 7pm this Friday at Ram stadium.
