PRESS RELEASE from TPWD

The Centennial Celebration of Texas State Parks is right around the corner, and park lovers are invited to get outside and join celebrations across the state. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) and presenting sponsor H-E-B, will celebrate 100 years of Texas State Parks beginning January 2023.

A highlight of the Centennial year will be the soft opening of Palo Pinto Mountains State Park in late 2023, the first new state park in North Texas in 25 years!

Located 75 miles west of Fort Worth and sitting on almost 5,000 acres of rambling hills and stunning vistas, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park will come to life thanks to a partnership between public funding and a dedicated private fundraising campaign, which will have a transformative impact that will touch generations of Texans.

This “hill country of the north” boasts extraordinary conservation and recreational potential. With several 1,400-foot peaks, the 90-acre Tucker Lake, and two creeks surrounded by stands of live oak, mesquite, cedar elms and native pecan trees, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park will provide a wonderful setting for hiking, mountain biking, camping, horseback riding, fishing and stargazing.

From family camping trips to quiet moments with wildlife, state parks have provided generations of Texans with unforgettable outdoor experiences. Opening a brand new park is only possible with the support of people like you who are passionate about the wild things and wild places of Texas.

Help us bring this new state park to life with your gift today. Your support will help ensure Palo Pinto Mountains State Park becomes a first-class outdoor experience destination for all Texans to enjoy!
