MWAN Broke the Story of Changes in leadership at the Chamber of Commerce. Now Read His Public statement from David May regarding his resignation and time as president/CEO of the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce:

“I can say I left the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce in better shape than when I arrived in May 2021, both organizationally and financially. Fiscal growth and stability were among my highest priorities entering the job and that was achieved.

“In 2022 we added 88 new members. Our retention rate is high. We reduced aging accounts. Today there are 450 Chamber members, which I believe is the most in the history of the Chamber.

“The idea for a state designation of ‘The Wellness Capital of Texas’ was my idea, not that it really matters whose idea it was. I am glad that happened and thankful for everyone who made it so, especially State Rep. Glenn Rogers.

“With our improved financial position, last year we hired a new full-time person, and it was an excellent hire. We relocated the Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau into downtown, with a goal of an expanded visitors center and gift shop open on weekends. Two new part-time positions were created and filled, and now the visitors center is open seven days a week and is welcoming and helping many more visitors to our city and county.

“We added new programs and member opportunities. I had just announced a new quarterly small business series free to members. I created the Friday Forum luncheon series. Thanks especially to Marcelinda (Williams) and Kim (Hoffman), and the Ambassadors, we have had very successful events. We just launched a nicely redesigned website with some new features, updated information and easier-to-access member services.

“We reinstated the Envision Mineral Wells board, which became inactive during the height of the pandemic.

“I greatly enjoyed the job and working with staff and stakeholders to create a stronger Chamber to better serve our members and the community. I learned a lot and, overall, it was a great experience. I have lived in and served this community for 21 years and throughout I have used my roles to try and help it grow and prosper. I love Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County and wish only the best for everyone. I thank my friends, co-workers and everyone who have helped and supported me along the way.”
