PK Fire Reaches 1000 Acres

A wildfire called the “Storage Fire” that started near West Hells’s Gate Loop at Possum Kingdom Lake has burned a 1000 acres and destroyed an out building according to Texas A&M Forest Services. It has also caused the mandatory evacuation of several neighborhoods at the lake.

The Hell’s Gate, Sportsman’s World and Gaines Bend neighborhoods are under mandatory evacuation which includes about 200 homes.

Some of the volunteer firefighters were sent home this evening to rest as another crew came into manage the blaze through the night.

“Things are laying down and crews are going to work to get containment lines put in around the new growth that occurred today,” said Adam Turner of the TAMFS.

The fire began on June 28 and seemed managed but hot spots flared up during the day on June 29 as windy conditions plagued the area.

Aerial attacks were ordered and tankers dumped fire retardant on the blaze.

Fortunately Governor Gregg Abbott announced approval for additional resources to be deployed to assist in the containment of the Storage Fire burning in Palo Pinto County. According to Inciweb, the Storage fire has burned 1000 acres and is 30% contained.

The Texas A&M Forest Service will deploy more than 15 personnel, an air attack platform, heavy equipment including bulldozers, two additional strike teams comprised of 30 firefighters, 10 fire engines and a water tender.
